🛠️ Installation Tips
-
Replace All Four Cylinders: The Rincon 650 uses a two-cylinder per wheel design (Upper and Lower). You must replace all four at once to ensure equal hydraulic pressure across the front axle.
-
Prep the Drum Surface: New drums often have a thin coating of protective oil from the factory. Clean the inside "braking" surface with heavy-duty brake cleaner before installation to prevent contaminating the new shoes.
-
Hub Surface Cleaning: Use a wire brush to remove rust from the wheel hub before sliding the new drum on. If the drum does not sit perfectly flush against the hub, you will experience severe vibration and "pulsing" at the lever.
-
The Bleeding Order: Always bleed the lower cylinder first, then the upper cylinder on each wheel. Use a clear hose and a jar of fresh DOT 4 fluid to ensure no air bubbles are left in the lines.
-
Initial Adjustment: Use a flat-head screwdriver through the inspection hole in the backing plate to turn the star-wheel adjuster. Turn it until the drum locks, then back it off just enough so the wheel spins with a very slight "whisper" of contact.
🔍 Troubleshooting Guide
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
| Spongy Brake Lever | Air trapped in one of the 4 cylinders. | Re-bleed the system. On the Rincon, air often gets stuck in the upper cylinders. Gravity bleeding overnight can sometimes help. |
| Brakes Dragging/Heat | Star-wheel adjusted too tight. | If the drums get hot without using the brakes, back off the star-wheel adjuster by 2–3 clicks until the wheel spins freely. |
| Vehicle Pulls to One Side | Uneven cylinder extension. | Ensure all 4 pistons move smoothly. If one wheel has a stuck cylinder, the ATV will swerve toward the side with working brakes. |
| Lever Pulsing/Vibration | Drum not flush against the hub. | Check for dirt or rust between the hub and the drum. Ensure wheel lug nuts are torqued in a star pattern to prevent distorting the drum. |
| Squealing or Grinding | Glazed shoes or debris in drum. | Scuff the new shoe material lightly with sandpaper to remove the factory glaze. Check for small pebbles trapped inside the drum housing. |
