🛠️ Installation Tips

  • Replace in Sets of Four: These Honda models use two cylinders per wheel. Replacing only one or two will lead to uneven braking pressure. Always replace all four to ensure the ATV tracks straight under heavy braking.

  • Flare Nut Wrench: Use a dedicated flare nut wrench to loosen the brake lines. The fittings are often rusted; using a standard open-end wrench will likely round off the nut, requiring a difficult line replacement.

  • Bleeding the System: Start with the lower cylinder first, then move to the upper one on each wheel. Because the lines are long, air bubbles often get trapped. Using a vacuum bleeder is highly recommended for these specific models.

  • Clean the Backing Plate: While the cylinders are off, clean the brake shoe contact points on the backing plate. Apply a tiny amount of high-temp brake grease to these spots to prevent the shoes from "hanging up."

  • Copper Washers: Always use new copper crush washers for the banjo bolts. Reusing old, hardened washers is the most common cause of slow fluid leaks after installation.

 🔍 Troubleshooting Guide

Issue Possible Cause Solution
Spongy Brake Lever Air still trapped in the cylinders. Re-bleed the system. Try "pumping" the lever quickly and then holding it while opening the bleeder. Ensure the master cylinder never runs dry.
ATV Pulls to One Side Uneven cylinder extension. One of the new cylinders may have air, or the opposite side is not working. Check that all 4 pistons move outward when the lever is squeezed.
Brake Fluid Leak at Boot Damaged internal seal. If fluid is leaking from the rubber dust boot, the internal seal is compromised. Check for debris on the brake line fitting or replace the unit.
Brakes Dragging Stuck piston or weak return springs. Verify the cylinders retract fully when the lever is released. If not, check if the brake shoe return springs are stretched or installed incorrectly.
No Brake Pressure Failing Master Cylinder. If all 4 cylinders are new and bled correctly but there is still no pressure, the internal seals of the handle-bar master cylinder are likely worn out.
