🛠️ Installation Tips
-
Lube the Lanyard Post: Before installation, apply a small amount of marine-grade waterproof grease to the kill switch post. This ensures the lanyard clip slides off easily in an emergency and prevents the plastic from becoming brittle over time.
-
Verify the Grommet Seal: When passing the wiring harness into the hull, ensure the rubber grommet is seated perfectly in the fiberglass opening. A loose grommet is the #1 cause of "mystery water" in the hull after a ride.
-
Dielectric Connection: Marine environments cause rapid oxidation. Apply dielectric grease to every pin in the multi-pin connector before plugging it into the main harness inside the hull.
-
Avoid Tight Harness Binds: Ensure there is a small "loop" of slack in the wiring harness near the handlebars. If the harness is zip-tied too tightly, the wires can pull out of the switch box when you turn the bars to full lock during docking maneuvers.
-
Post-Install Test: Always test the functionality on the trailer before hitting the water. Confirm that the Stop button kills the engine and that the engine cannot start without the lanyard clip in place.
🔍 Troubleshooting Guide
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
| Engine Won't Crank | Lanyard not seated or corroded Start button. | Ensure the clip is fully engaged. If you get a "clicking" sound but no crank, the switch is working; check your battery voltage or starter relay instead. |
| Engine Won't Stop | Salt buildup in the Stop button contacts. | This is a safety hazard. If the Stop button fails to kill the engine, internal corrosion has likely bridged the contacts. Replace the assembly immediately. |
| Random Stalling on Waves | Weak Lanyard spring or loose clip. | If hitting a wake causes the engine to die, the kill switch spring may be weak, allowing the clip to wobble. This new assembly restores the firm tension needed for rough water. |
| Intermittent Start Failure | "Green Crust" (Corrosion) in the plug. | Inspect the 4-pin or 6-pin connector inside the hull. If the pins look green, clean them with contact cleaner before plugging in the new assembly. |
| Sticky Buttons | Salt crystal accumulation. | After riding in salt water, always rinse the switch box with fresh water. If the buttons are already "crunchy," the internal seals are likely gone, and the unit needs replacement. |
