🛠️ Installation Tips

  • Seal the Hull Entry: When feeding the wiring harness through the handlebars into the hull, ensure the rubber grommet is seated perfectly. Apply a small bead of marine-grade RTV silicone around the grommet to prevent water from entering the hull during heavy surf or if the ski is flipped.

  • Dielectric Grease is Non-Negotiable: Saltwater is highly conductive and corrosive. Apply a generous amount of dielectric grease to every pin in the multi-pin connector before plugging it into the main harness. This prevents the "green crust" oxidation that causes intermittent starting failures.

  • Check the Ground: On these older 2-stroke models, a weak ground is common. While the electrical box is open to plug in the switch, ensure the main ground wire (usually black) is secured to a clean, rust-free metal surface.

  • Avoid Harness Binding: Leave a small "service loop" (slack) in the wiring harness near the handlebars. If the harness is zip-tied too tightly, the internal wires can fray or pull out of the switch box when you turn the bars to full lock during docking maneuvers.

  • Emergency Lanyard Test: Before launching, start the engine on the trailer (for no more than 15 seconds) and pull the lanyard to confirm it kills the engine instantly. Then, attempt to start it without the lanyard; it should not crank.

🔍 Troubleshooting Guide

Issue Possible Cause Solution
Engine Won't Crank Corroded Start button or unseated Lanyard. Ensure the clip is fully engaged. If the "Start" button feels "crunchy" or doesn't click, salt crystals have likely destroyed the internal contacts.
Engine Won't Stop Shorted Stop button contacts. Major Safety Hazard: If the Stop button fails to kill the engine, moisture has likely fused the contacts. Replace the switch assembly immediately.
Random Stalling on Waves Weak safety switch spring or loose clip. If the engine dies while hitting wakes, the kill switch spring may be too weak to hold the clip steady. This new unit restores the necessary firm tension.
"Clicking" but No Crank Switch is working; Battery or Solenoid is bad. If you hear the starter relay clicking in the hull when you press Start, your switch is working. Check your battery voltage or the starter solenoid/relay instead.
Sticky Buttons Salt crystal accumulation. After every ride, rinse the switch housing with fresh water. If the buttons already feel "crunchy," the seals have failed, and the unit needs to be replaced.
