🛠️ Installation Tips

  • Clean the Hub Surface: Before installing the new rotor (1HP-F582V-00-00), use a wire brush to clean the mounting surface on the hub. Even a tiny piece of grit trapped behind the rotor will cause a "wobble" (run-out) that you'll feel as a vibration in the brake pedal.

  • Threadlocker is Mandatory: Use a drop of Blue Loctite on the rotor mounting bolts. The Grizzly’s rear end vibrates significantly; without threadlocker, these bolts can back out and destroy your new calipers.

  • Bleeding the Dual System: Since the Grizzly 700 uses two rear calipers, always bleed the one furthest from the master cylinder first. Keep an eye on the fluid level; if the reservoir runs dry, you’ll have to restart the entire process.

  • Rotor Prep: New rotors are often shipped with a thin coat of protective oil to prevent rust. Must do: Clean the rotor surfaces thoroughly with brake cleaner before installation, or your new pads will become "glazed" and lose stopping power immediately.

  • Caliper Alignment: Ensure the calipers slide freely on their mounting pins. If the "floating" action is restricted, one pad will wear down to the metal while the other stays brand new.

🔍 Troubleshooting Guide

Issue Possible Cause Solution
Squealing Noise Glazed pads or uncleaned rotor. Clean the rotor with brake cleaner. If the noise persists, apply "Brake Quiet" paste to the back of the pads where they touch the piston.
Spongy Pedal Air in the dual-caliper lines. Re-bleed the system. Dual-rear systems are notorious for trapping small air bubbles in the "junction" block.
Brakes Dragging / Heat Seized slide pins. Remove the caliper and grease the slide pins with high-temp silicone grease. Verify the piston retracts when the pedal is released.
Pulsating Pedal Warped rotor or uneven torque. Use a torque wrench on the rotor bolts ($18\text{--}22 \text{ lb-ft}$). If the rotor was installed over dirt, it will feel warped even if it's new.
Low Braking Power Pads not "bedded" in. Perform 10-15 slow stops from $15 \text{ mph}$ to transfer a layer of pad material to the new rotor for maximum friction.
