🛠️ Installation Tips

  • Inspect the Pin & Shaft: Before installing the new gear, check the water pump shaft and the locating pin/dowels for wear or bending. A damaged shaft will cause the new gear to fail prematurely.

  • Check for Debris: If your previous gear shattered or "stripped," you must flush the engine casing to ensure no broken plastic fragments are left inside, as these can clog oil passages or damage other gears.

  • Lubrication: Apply a generous amount of clean engine oil to the gear teeth and the shaft during assembly to ensure smooth initial engagement.

  • Proper Seating: Ensure the gear is fully seated and the snap ring (if applicable) is clicked into its groove. A loose gear will wobble and strip its teeth under high RPM.

  • Gasket Replacement: Always use a new clutch cover gasket when reassembling the engine side case to prevent oil leaks.

Issue Possible Cause Solution
Rapid Overheating Stripped gear teeth. If the engine heats up quickly but the radiator stays relatively cool, the gear may be spinning on the shaft without turning the impeller. Replace gear.
Whining Noise from Case Poor gear mesh or worn bearings. Inspect the water pump bearings and the plastic gear for any signs of abnormal wear or "hooked" teeth.
Gear Shattered/Broken Mechanical blockage or high-impact load. Check if the water pump impeller is seized. If the impeller can't turn, the drive gear will snap to protect the engine.
Milky Engine Oil Water pump seal failure. Replacing the gear won't fix this. You must replace the mechanical oil seal on the shaft to keep coolant out of the oil.
Coolant Not Circulating Gear not engaged with shaft. Ensure the pin that locks the gear to the shaft is present and properly installed. Without the pin, the gear will spin freely.
